Still Life

For my still life painting I did a lot of layering and blending of colors. I didn’t want to have too much going on so I created contrast between the background and the table, and the vase with the plants. As you can see the background is a light yellow and the table is a dark green. I made the flowers bright, such as the orange flower, and the blue flowers in the middle. The lightest thing in the painting is the vase; I created emphasis on it because I always colored my vases blue when I was a little girl. The vase also created movement towards the flowers. I did a lot of layering on the orange and pink flowers. The orange one has yellow and some white on it, and the pink ones are layered with different pinks. My painting doesn’t have much because I want to let the viewers eyes rest.

Soap Stone Sculpture

For my soap stone sculpture I decided to make a tree stump with a mushroom and a snail. The mushroom is attached to the tree on the side, and the snail can be placed on top. This was the first idea that came to my mind, so I went along with it. I also made it because it is very unique; mushrooms and snails are things people do not like. I put them together to create something new and I attempted to make it beautiful. The reason why I made them part of a tree is because trees symbolize life, and mushrooms and snails are part of this world. Making an entire tree would take away the emphasis on the mushroom and snail. In order for those two things to be seen by the audience I created movement on the tree by carving deep grooves in the tree; it makes ones eyes move from the snail to the mushroom. I picked a rock that had a brown color to it to make it look realistic, and added carvings to the mushroom and snail to give them their own unique look. 

T-shirt social issue

Trees once covered fourteen percent of the earth, and now they only cover about six percent. Scientist have predicted that in less than forty years all of the rain-forests will be consumed. As a result, animals and insects that use trees as their homes will die. Experts estimate that we are losing 137 plants, animal, and insect species everyday due to deforestation. Not only does it affect animals, it affects humans as well. We use plants for medicine, products, and they help decrease air pollution. I decided to have a tree and a crossed out chainsaw on my shirt to represent this social issue. 

My self portrait

This is my self portrait. My portrait is unbalanced in color. The left side is dark and as you look to the right the colors get lighter. The dark represents my past, and the sound waves on the right stand for obstacles i faced and will face in life. The ballerina and the music notes create emphasis because they are on the side where the background is light, and their meaning is happiness. When i feel down i play music. Music calms me and it surrounds me everyday that is why i drew the sound waves around my face, me.
